Lancaster Street Dance and BreakDance Sessions

Ludus Dance are offering Super Sundays (Sunday workshops) for young people in street dance and breakdance.

Super Sunday Street Dance – Sunday 14th October
11 – 16yrs – 10.30 – 12.30pm
16 yrs + - 1.30 – 3.30pm

Super Sunday Breakdance – Sunday 11th November
11 – 16yrs – 10.30 – 12.30pm
16 yrs + - 1.30 – 3.30pm

Cost in advance - £10/£8 concessions (under 18’s)
On the day – an extra £2 will be charged

Preston Youth Dance (PYD)

Following a successful re-launch in February 2007, Preston Youth Dance (PYD) is looking for new recruits to join this exciting, energetic group. Preston Youth Dance is accessible to any young person aged 10 – 25yrs. Led by artists from Ludus Dance, PYD is a creative, fun and challenging group for any young person with a passion for dance.

Classes resume on September 20th 4.30 – 6.00pm

Integr8

Integr8 are an integrated youth dance group for young people with and without disabilities. This established group was recently shortlisted for the National Youth Dance Festival and joined 7 other groups across the North West in the regional heats.

Recently, Integr8 enjoyed working with Jess Curtis when he visited the area for the Ludus Dance International Training Forum.

Integr8 began in 2004, following a residency from STOPGAP Dance Company. Led by artists from Ludus Dance, Integr8 is a creative, accessible and fun group which aims to create performance based work.

Ludus Youth Dance Company

On June 24th, Ludus Dance auditioned for the Ludus Youth Dance Company (LYDC)* Over 80 young people applied and 60 attended auditions held at St Augustines New Avenham Centre, Preston. The audition, led by Ludus dance artists, Jonny Hate and Debbie Milner, was a huge success and enabled Ludus to offer 15 dancers the opportunity to join the new LYDC!

In the Autumn term, LYDC will be creating pieces with Stuart Waters (Motionhouse), Filip Van Huffel (Retina) and Keira Martin (Bermuda). They will then be touring venues in the North West.

* The Ludus Youth Dance Company are auditioned annually from talented young dancers from across Lancashire. 2007/8 Company are aged between 14 and 22years. The company are led by Ludus artist Hannah Robertshaw and also benefit from creating work with visiting choreographers. In previous years, the company have performed at The Nuffield Theatre Lancaster, The Dukes Lancaster, Burnley Youth Theatre, The Lowry Manchester, The Gala Theatre Durham, Charter Theatre Preston, Royal Festival Hall London, The Northern School of Contemporary Dance and the West Yorkshire Playhouse Leeds.

Ludus Dancers work with Salford Schools

In June 2007, 4 dancers from Ludus took on the challenge of working with 80 young people from the Salford area to create ‘Quay Times’ a performance piece, performed at the Lowry, exploring the Salford Quays.

The dancers performed alongside the young people in both a site specific piece outside the Lowry and the final performance in the Quays Theatre.

The event was a huge success and celebrated the talents of young dancers in Salford. To see pictures from the event please visit the Ludus Dance Cafe

Ludus Dancers work with young dancers in Dalton in Furness

Debbie Milner and Jonny Hate, dancers with the Ludus Touring Company, have been working with 4 year 10 students from Dowdales School training them to run after school clubs for local primary schools alongside members of staff.

This exciting project aims to equip young people with the skills to deliver creative dance classes in their area and is a unique development which has been funded by the Arts Council in partnership with Cumbria Arts in Education.
